Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of helping couples to conceive and this awareness is now widespread all over the world. Christine provides specialist acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments to maximise your chances of falling pregnant, with a healthy baby, both naturally and with IVF. In both cases it is important to improve follicle and sperm quality, and to nourish a womens body to give your child the most optimum environment for growth.

Natural Fertility Treatments for Men and Women

    • Unexplained Infertility In reality many couples given unexplained reasons for not conceiving are not clinically infertile, they may simply not be in emotional or physical reproductive balance. Chinese Medicine helps to address this imbalance with skilful diagnosis and treatment plans to regulate your hormones, rebalance your body and ease the mind to maximise your chances of falling pregnant.
    • Explained InfertilityRecurrent Miscarriage, Endometriosis, PCOS, Premature Ovarian Failure, Abnormal or Low Sperm count or motility, immune or blood clotting factors, high FSH.

For couples having difficulties, acupuncture can provide a better alternative to IVF programs by addressing the underlying root reasons for these difficulties to arise. Often these symptoms can inhibit conception and by providing special acupuncture treatments these imbalances can be addressed, maximizing your chances of conception both naturally or with IVF.

IVF Preparation for Men and Women

For couples wanting to maximise there chances with IVF or IUI cycles, Christine provides special preparatory treatments to help address any imbalances and strengthen your bodies for conception. Treatments start before you start your cycles, for women; to help increase the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, to improve the quality and quantity of follicles, and to increase the endometrial lining, and for men; to improve sperm production, to increase motility and improve there quality, all helping your chances for a health baby. These treatments help to aid in better chances of implantation.

Pre and Post Embryo Transfer Treatments Research has shown that acupuncture both prior to and after an embryo transfer, or either pre or post treatments only, result in higher conception rates in IVF patients. Christine works with women and men going through IVF programs at both Balmain Natural Therapies and the IVF Acupuncture Support Clinic, providing specialist acupuncture treatments for both pre and post transfers.

Post Egg Pick-up Treatments After an egg collection it is a good idea to receive acupuncture, to minimise tenderness, pain and bloating that can arise after follicle stimulation and collection. Acupuncture can help rebalance the body and relieve the anxiety associated with the procedure. For women experiencing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome OHSS, this is particulary helpful to minimise discomfort and to prepare the body for the transfer.

BBT Charts

Basal Body Temperature (BBT) charting is a very useful and important diagnostic tool to help us understand the regularity of your hormones, when your ovulation occurred and how short or long your follicular and luteal phases are. All this information is used in helping us make a diagnosis, and to assist you to fall pregnant. It is a great tool for women also as you get to know your cycle, to understand the changes that occurs and know when you are actually ovulating.

A full explanation of BBT charting is given at your consultations.

It is recommended that all women wanting to come to Chinese Medicine treatments for fertility start recording thier BBT readings daily as soon as they can. This helps get some background information on what is going on.

How to record your BBT

Basal body temperature (BBT) is the temperature of your body at rest. It is taken first thing in the morning, preferably after a good nights sleep (at least 4 hours) at the same time each day, by placing a thermometer under your tongue and reading the temperature after 3-5mins. You must limit your movement and talking before doing this. Your temperatures are recorded on a BBT chart every day over your cycle.

You can print a BBT chart here.

What you see on a BBT Chart

A monthy cycle shows on the BBT chart as two distinct phases;

Follicular Phase - starts from day 1 of your cycle (when menstruation occurs) to ovulation, for a 28 cycle this can be around day 14/15. Temperatures typically fall in the range of 36.1 to 36.5 averaging 36.3-36.4 degrees celsius.

Luteal Phase - a rise of around 0.3- 0.4 degree celcius from the average temperatures in the follicular phase indicates ovulation has started and is the start of the luteal phase. Temperatures here are typically higher and more stable than the follicular phase. This phase lasts between 10-14 days, ending with a drop in temperature when menstruation starts.

Of course not all women have typical cycles, Any variations from typical BBT patterns is where Chinese Medicine at Balmain Natural Therapies can help, to regulate your hormones and hence your cycles and maximise your chances of falling pregnant.

You can also put on the chart changes such cervical mucous secretions, breast or abdomen tenderness, days of intercourse and other S/S such as headaches, PMT etc. All this complementary information is to provide you with your individual profile to help you and your practitioner correlate what is going on in your body, enabling a concise treatment plan to maximise your chances of falling pregnant.
